Following the infamous disrespect shown to Ghanaian artistes during the Invasion Concert staged in Nigeria, Dr Oluwatobi Saani Daniel, Becca’s husband has said Ghanaian artistes should put in more effort in Nigeria before gaining the needed recognition.

Over the weekend, young Ghanaian business mogul, Nana Appiah Mensah launched his Menzgold and Zylofon Media in Nigeria amidst a musical concert dubbed Invasion Concert.

When artistes from Ghana performed, the audience showed no interest and watched proceedings as though they were watching TV. They however cheered and jammed to songs from Nigerian artistes.

The matter has angered lot of Ghanaians so much that people are calling for the ban of Nigerian songs in Ghana but Mr. Tobi thinks our artistes need to work extra hard outside their comfort zone by presenting themselves severally in areas where they want their songs to trend.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Zylofon FM’s Showbiz Agenda with the host Sammy Flex, the CEO disclosed that in Nigeria they will only accept a song from an artiste for airplay when that particular musician has landed in their country and has performed some shows to promote their brands.

He said:

“Here in Nigeria, musicians from other parts of the world are required to be present physically with their contents before their songs can be played on the airwaves. Musicians must learn to promote their works extensively to gain recognition.”

“If other musicians come down to Nigeria with their songs, we would be forced to play their songs. If you don’t come your songs won’t be played.”

Tobi added that the only Ghanaian artistes who are known in Nigeria are Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Becca, MzVee and Shatta Wale because they have been collaborating with some popular Nigerian musicians.

He however added that they should put in more effort because studio collaborations are not enough to gain the attention of Nigerians.

“Studio collaborations are not enough. Musicians must do joint collaborations often, embark on a media tour and perform those songs together on stage in promoting their music to break through other music markets.”

He further stated that in Nigeria, they know only Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, King Promise, Kidi and Kuami Eugene.

“Yes, there is a broadcasting policy but Ghanaian artistes like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Kidi, King Promise and Kuami Eugene are on top of Nigerian playlist most times,”

he revealed.
