Otiko Djaba Rejects Presidential Appointment, Announces Her Retiment From Politics


Former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Otiko Afisa Djaba has announced her retirement from active politics after rejecting the president’s offer to serve as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy.

According to Otiko, she has informed the Presidency and want to “relax and enjoy my family”. Before her resignation, Ms Otiko was the NPP National Women’s Organiser before she was appointed as the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

After the President, Akufo-Addo made a reshuffle of his ministers, Otiko has taken it upon herself to resign and take care of her ex-husband who has a stroke for the past six years rather than travel out of the country almost every time due to her new appointment as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy which she has rejected.

She told the Daily Graphic;

“I cannot abandon him now.”

She becomes the second minister to leave the Akufo-Addo led NPP government after the President sacked his Energy minister Boakye Agyarko for negotiating an Ameri Deal which would have cost the tax payers.

She is a divorcee with three children, one boy and two girls.
