Real Madrid emerged winners of the 2018 UEFA Champions League beating Liverpool 3-1 but there was some bad moments when Liverpool top scorer, MO Salah got injured less than 30 minutes into the first half.
Fast forward, nearly 300,000 people have signed a petition demanding that Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos is punished for his challenge on Mohamed Salah which ruled him out of the rest of the game.
Salah’s first ever Champions League final was brought to an end following a sharp challenge from the Real Madrid defender. Football fans around the world are divided on whether the Spanish defender intentionally injured Salah or not.
Many people who have been outraged enough to call for Ramos to be retrospectively punished by UEFA or FIFA.
Football pundits, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand both absolved the Spanish defender of blame but former Everton striker, Landon Donovan tweeted his thoughts, saying:
“The foul by Ramos on Salah was not dirty. It was just really unfortunate that it caused that type of injury. “Salah deserved better.”
The petition, shared on Petition.com, says: “UEFA and FIFA should take measures against Ramos and similar players, using the video recordings of matches to keep the spirit of the game.”
