All too soon, we are been reminded of how a young and a courageous man passed away. Today marks exactly one year Major Maxwell Mahama passed away after being lynched by the youth of Denkyra-obuasi.
Major Mahama was lynched to death by the people of Denkyra -Obuasi because they assumed he was an armed robber when they saw that he was carrying a gun on the Day he met his untimely death. Sadly, he didn’t even get the chance to explain himself further to the people in the community. Late Mahama was tasked to help fight against galamsey which was growing fast in Denkyra-Obuasi.
He died a painful death, people of Denkyra hit him with stones, sticks, and finally lighted up fire on his body whiles suffering from his beatings. He was in the 5 infantry Battalion of the Ghana armed forces Burma camp Accra and was on detachment duty at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region where he was gruesomely murdered on May 29, 2017.
Maxwell Mahama was a Captain at the time of his passing but was promoted to Major by the current president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo when he visited his family on Monday June 5, 2017. He also turned out to be a relative of ex President Mahama. Major left behind a wife and two strong boys who did not get much of fatherly love.
